The role
Build it, don't inherit it.
Most HR jobs hand you a 200-page handbook someone else wrote and ask you to enforce it. This one hands you a blank page.
Century Mechanical is a commercial HVAC/R contractor serving manufacturing plants, food-service groups, and industrial clients across Georgia. We do serious work for serious customers — and we're growing fast enough that "how we've always done it" is no longer good enough. We need someone to build the people systems that let us scale from a tight crew into the largest commercial HVAC/R company in Georgia.
You will be our first dedicated HR and operations hire. What you build is what this company runs on for the next ten years.
What you'll own
Recruiting
Own the full hiring cycle for field technicians, helpers, and office staff — sourcing, screening, interviews, offers, onboarding
Design the onboarding program that turns a new hire into a productive tech
Build a skills ladder so technicians know exactly what earns the next raise
Track certifications and renewals — EPA 608, OSHA 10/30, licenses, driver records
Run safety and technical training in coordination with our lead techs
HR foundation (from scratch)
Write the employee handbook, job descriptions, offer letters, and performance review process
Set up personnel files, I-9/W-4 compliance, and W-2 vs. 1099 classification discipline
Partner with our outside CPA on biweekly payroll — you own timesheet accuracy and reporting
Help design and launch our first employee benefits program
Business operations
Keep licensing, insurance, and vendor compliance current
Own the administrative systems that keep jobs moving — and improve them
Work inside ServiceTitan and help us push further into automation
What we're looking for
Required
3+ years as an HR generalist, HR manager, or HR/office manager at a small or mid-sized company — you were the HR department, not one specialist inside it
Working knowledge of Georgia and federal employment law, payroll basics, workers' comp, and hiring compliance
Genuinely comfortable hiring hourly field labor — it is a completely different game from hiring office staff, and you know it
Organized enough to build a system, flexible enough to change it next quarter
Strongly preferred
Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
Experience in HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, construction, or field-service industries
Bilingual Korean/English
Who thrives here
You'll do well if:
You've been frustrated by companies where good ideas die in committee
You want to point at a company in five years and say I built that department
You like being close enough to the work to know the techs by name
Ambiguity energizes you more than it stresses you
You should not apply if:
You want a defined role with defined boundaries and a predictable Tuesday
You need a large HR team, an established process, or an HRIS that already works
"That's not in my job description" is a sentence you've used
This is a growing company, not a finished one. Some weeks you'll be writing policy; some weeks you'll be on the phone chasing down a certificate of insurance. Both matter.
What we offer
From $60,000 base, depending on experience, plus performance bonus
Direct access to the owner — no layers, decisions happen the same week
Real ownership of a function, with room to grow into a leadership role as we scale
Employee benefits program launching next year — you'll help design it
Paid time off and paid holidays
How to apply
Send your resume to admin@century-mechanical.com with the subject line "HR & Operations Manager — [Your Name]".
In your email, answer one question in a short paragraph:
Tell us about a system, process, or program you built where none existed before. What was broken, what did you build, and what changed?
We read every one of these. It matters more to us than your resume.
